The 68mm fan is an inlet guide vane axial fan built for high airflow resistance conditions in turreted vehicles. The 90mm fan is a higher-flow, medium-pressure axial fan suited to both turret smoke extraction and vehicle crew compartment clearance, with the added option of direct duct mounting.

Both fan platforms run from a 28V DC nominal supply, driven by a brushless DC motor available in several speed variants up to 24,000 rpm.

Q: How long are these fans rated to last?

Endurance is rated at greater than 15,000 hours at 25°C and 12,000 rpm.

Q: What environmental standards do they meet?

Both fans are typically qualified to DEF STAN 00-35 and MIL-STD-810 for vibration, acceleration, sand and dust, and salt mist, plus EMC to DEF STAN 59-41/411 or MIL-STD-810, and waterproofing to BS 3G 100 pt2 section 3.11 category B.

Q: Can the fans be mounted in any orientation?

Yes. Mounting attitude is unrestricted for both fans the 68mm fan mounts via front or back flange, and the 90mm fan via front or rear flange mount or direct duct mounting.

Q: Are these fans explosion-proof and fireproof?

Yes. Both use a totally enclosed motor for explosion protection, and construction materials are non-flammable and not nutrients to fungi.

Overview

In today's combat vehicles, protecting crew from gun smoke is critical. It's at minimum a discomfort to personnel in confined spaces, and gun smoke may contain toxic elements that represent a genuine health hazard.

AMETEK Airtechnology extracts gun smoke quickly using customised fans with high airflow characteristics, drawing on extensive experience designing, developing, and manufacturing compact fans for this exact role. Our fans have been used extensively in service and are proven, efficient, reliable, and revised as necessary over time to meet the latest requirements.

We offer two fan platforms for this application:

68mm Axial Fan - an inlet guide vane axial fan ideally suited to smoke extraction on turreted armoured vehicles, where high airflow resistance is encountered. The 68mm impeller diameter fan is cast in aluminium alloy for a light but robust construction, driven by a 28V brushless DC motor available in several speeds, and mountable in any attitude with front or back flange panel mounting.
90mm Multi-Speed Fan - a 90mm diameter, high flow, medium pressure axial flow fan suited to smoke extraction on turreted armoured vehicles and in vehicle crew compartments. The housing and impeller are cast in aluminium alloy, driven by a 28V brushless DC totally enclosed motor with sealed-for-life bearings, and mountable in any attitude with front or rear flange mount or direct duct mounting.
