Engine Cooling Fans
High-performance MP4 mixed flow fans deliver low-power-consumption engine cooling for military vehicles, with backward inclined blades that resist clogging in dusty conditions and non-stall performance under load. Available in three standard sizes (305mm, 380mm, 475mm) across hydraulic, belt, shaft, or electric drive, with an optional Inlet Guide Vane upgrade for a 15% performance boost. An HVDC electric variant supports modern hybrid-electric combat vehicles.

Product Details
AMETEK Airtechnology's MP4 mixed flow fans deliver high-performance, low-power-consumption engine cooling for military vehicles. Manufactured in cast aluminium alloy, they combine non-stall performance with non-overloading power characteristics and low noise emission levels.
Their backward inclined impeller blades are particularly suited to dusty conditions the blades stay clean, avoiding the loss of efficiency that affects other fan designs. Being a true mixed flow design, an MP4 fan can discharge air axially or centrifugally from the same unit within a compact package, giving vehicle cooling system designers more layout flexibility than pseudo mixed flow, axial, or centrifugal fans allow including installation constraints such as how close an obstruction can sit to the fan outlet.
The MP4 range comes in three standard sizes 305mm, 380mm, and 475mm offered with hydraulic, belt, shaft, or electric drive. Mounting methods can be adapted to suit individual installation requirements, and detailed dimensional data for direct drive and belt drive variants is available on application.
We also offer a performance enhancement on top of the base MP4 platform:
- Inlet Guide Vane (IGV) / MP5 - a standalone, modular guide vane that attaches to existing MP4 fans for an instant 15% boost in airflow and pressure. The newer MP5 aero design builds on the MP4 platform for enhanced efficiency within the same footprint, making upgrades and platform refreshes straightforward.
Tailored Solutions for Every Platform
We partner with customers to define requirements and deliver tailored engine cooling fan solutions

Available for all three sizes
Hydraulic Drive
Hydraulic drive engine cooling fans offer precise, variable-speed control, allowing cooling performance to be matched to engine demand in real time. This results in improved fuel efficiency, reduced parasitic power losses, and lower noise levels compared with fixed-speed solutions. Hydraulic drive fans are particularly suited to wheeled and tracked military vehicles where cooling requirements can vary significantly depending on operating conditions and mission profiles.

Available for all three sizes
Belt Drive
Belt drive fans provide a simple, reliable, and cost-effective cooling solution for a wide range of vehicle applications. The flexible arrangement allows the fan to be positioned independently of the engine, helping engineers optimise packaging within restricted engine compartments. Belt-driven configurations are proven in demanding military environments and can be tailored to suit specific installation requirements.

Available for all three sizes
Shaft Drive
Shaft-driven fans deliver robust and efficient cooling through a direct mechanical connection to the power source. With minimal system complexity and proven reliability, shaft drive solutions are ideal for applications where durability, simplicity, and low maintenance are key requirements. Combined with AMETEK Airtechnology's mixed flow fan technology, shaft-driven configurations provide consistent cooling performance even under challenging operating conditions.

Available for all three sizes
Electric Drive
Electric drive fans provide advanced thermal management for modern military platforms, including hybrid and electric vehicles. Offering independent control of fan speed, electric drives enable cooling performance to be optimised regardless of engine speed, improving efficiency and reducing unnecessary power consumption. AMETEK Airtechnology's electrically driven fan solutions can be configured with high-power-density motors to meet demanding vehicle cooling requirements while supporting future vehicle electrification programmes
